Getting together with other creatives helps to reinvigorate our own artistic voice, helps us to feel less isolated, helps us to feel more connected with our community, and makes us feel a lot more positive. Just because we are all home alone doesn’t mean we have to miss out on our artsy afternoons; it just means that we had to do it virtually. And it also means we have to provide our own snacks and wine.
Steps to a Virtual Craft Party
There’s a few details to think about before the fun can begin. Here’s a list so that your virtual craft-a-longs can be fun for everyone.
Decide what type of get-together you want.

Do you want to just bring your own craft and chat? This is always a lot of fun, especially if you have some who prefer paper and some who prefer crocheting while others prefer making jewelry.
Is it just a show and tell to catch up on what everyone is doing? You don’t need to work on anything if you just want to connect with your creative friends. It can be helpful and interesting to see what everyone else is working on and to share your works-in-progress as well.
Do you want someone to teach a certain technique? Perhaps you or someone in your group has a great idea to teach everyone. You could also choose a video from you tube if a particular project or supply is brand new to everyone.
If you decide to do the same project, make a list of the supplies everyone will need and include that information in the invite. Make sure you give everyone enough time to order things they may not have.
Decide where you want to host this party.

There are so many online options to try. Right now, Zoom is the most common application, and it’s easy to use. Ask your friends if anyone has unlimited Zoom access already and would be willing to host the meeting. If that’s not an option, Zoom for free limits you to 40 minutes.
Facebook and Google also have meeting options. If you look around and ask others, you will be able to find something that works for you and your friends. Watch parties are also a great way to get together, especially for a youtube project, although usually the only way to interact with others is through chat.
Remember it’s all about fun!
Just keep in mind that a successful virtual craft party is not really about the project. It’s about spending time with the people that you love. So grab your supplies, a mug of tea, coffee or a glass of wine and have fun with your virtual get-together !
